CERRITOS, CA – The fiery passion of Flamenco ignites in the powerful performances of Noche Flamenca. Founded in Spain by Martin Santangelo and Soledad Barrio, the company is known for its transcendent and deeply emotional performances. Each performance stresses the integration of the three essential elements of Flamenco: the dance, the music, and the song, performed by some of Spain’s most spellbinding dancers, musicians, and singers. Noche Flamenca performs at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) Friday, March 21, 8:00 PM. Tickets are now on sale at the CCPA Ticket Office, by calling (562) 467-8818, or at
. Ticket prices range from $48-$28.
Since its beginning in 1993, NOCHE FLAMENCA has developed into one of Spain’s most successful and respected Flamenco companies. Barrio has received more than 12 awards from around the globe for her outstanding creative achievements, her two latest being the Lucille Lortel and Bessie Awards.
“Flamenco is a primal scream, an essential cry to express the joy, sorrow, comedy, and tragedy of individuals and groups who are repressed by some form of limitation – social, economic, spiritual, (or) physical. In an attempt, through singing, playing and dancing, to free the soul from this oppression, we are impelled onto a tough but beautiful road full of miraculous human complexity. Flamenco is our vehicle,” says Artistic Director Santangelo. New York Observer critic John Heilpern said, “She (Barrio) transcends the human like some ecstatic animal. The percussive energy is phenomenal, of course. But what ultimately transpires is the grave beauty of a dark lament.”
