CCPA Presents The Best of Doo-Wop Vol. VII on Sat., Dec. 10, 7:00 PM
CERRITOS, CA – Enjoy THE BEST OF DOO-WOP VOL. VII, an exciting showcase of the genre’s biggest legends, at the Cerritos Center for the Performing Arts (CCPA) on Saturday, December 10, 7:00 PM. Jam with JAY SIEGEL’S TOKENS, which has shared the stage with The Beatles, Chuck Berry, and Little Richard. The band, whose hit song The Lion Sleeps Tonight attained Gold certification, was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2004. The group’s hits include Portrait of My Love, Tonight I Fell in Love, She Lets Her Hair Down, and I Hear Trumpets Blow.
At age 15, PEGGY MARCHsoared to the top of the music charts with the single I Will Follow Him, which helped to define the early girl group sound. She followed up with the hits I Wish I Were a Princess, which was featured in Hairspray, and Hello Heartache, Goodbye Love.
BRIAN HYLAND climbed to the top of the Billboard charts with the novelty song Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dot Bikini. Hyland followed up with more hits, including Sealed With a Kiss, Ginny Come Lately, and Gypsy Woman.
In the early ’60s, JOEY DEE rocketed to the top of the charts with The Peppermint Twist with the popular band The Starliters. It was during the height of the Twist craze, and the song knocked Chubby Checker’s The Twist – the song that sparked the Twist fad – from the No. One spot.
One of the earliest interracial quintets of the 1950s, NORMAN FOX & THE ROB ROYS delivered the upbeat Doo-Wop songs Tell Me Why, Lover Doll, and Dance Girl Dance.
THE DUKES OF DOO-WOPa capella street-corner-style harmony takes audiences back to the good old days of the ’50s and ’60s.
Rounding out the evening’s lineup is CHRIS MONTEZ, who charmed fans and critics with Let’s Dance, which soared to No. Four on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. One of the leading rockers in the Los Angeles Latino community after the tragic death of Ritchie Valens, Montez delivered the hits Some Kinda Fun,Call Me, and There Will Never Be Another You. He has toured with Clyde McPhatter, Sam Cooke, The Platters, and Smokey Robinson.
